You are most welcome to the website of My Parkinson's Nurse. The UK's first (and currently only) CQC registered independent Parkinson's nurse specialist service.

In the UK, there are 166,000 people diagnosed with Parkinson's. 30,000 of those people do not have easy access to a Parkinson's specialist nurse to help them navigate and live well with the condition.

This is why My Parkinson's Nurse was created.

At My Parkinson's Nurse, you can access education on the condition, a thorough assessment on your condition, and if appropriate, an adjustment in your medication.

It's a service that is intended to compliment the NHS, not completely replace it.

I offer personalised support to help you better understand Parkinson’s, feel more in control, and make informed decisions about your care.

Who will be your Parkinson's nurse?

My name is Emma Edwards

My Parkinson’s Nurse is an independent specialist nursing service providing personalised support to people living with Parkinson’s and their families across the UK. Founded by Emma Edwards, the service combines clinical expertise, national leadership experience, and compassionate, person-centred care.

Emma has worked in Parkinson’s nursing for over 16 years and has more than 30 years of experience across NHS and independent practice. Her background also includes mental health nursing, education, research involvement, and service development. She was recently awarded a Parkinson’s UK Excellence Network Award in 2026 for her national teaching project on mental health awareness.

The service was created to improve access to specialist support, reduce uncertainty, and help people feel more informed and confident in managing Parkinson’s. Every consultation is tailored to the individual, with advice shaped around their concerns, priorities, and circumstances.

My Parkinson’s Nurse works alongside NHS care and is designed to complement, not replace, existing treatment and specialist support.

If you live in Cornwall, Emma runs a free monthly educational and support group in Bodmin at the Shire House Suite - 2nd Friday of each month 1.30pm-3.30pm.

Services Provided

My Parkinson’s Nurse offers two main ways to access specialist Parkinson's nursing support for people living with the condition. We also offer just Educational support for people with Parkinson's and their families, and training for organisations.

One-Off Comprehensive Assessment — £200

A comprehensive online assessment with an experienced Parkinson’s specialist nurse.

The appointment lasts approximately 60–90 minutes and explores your motor and non-motor Parkinson’s symptoms, current medication, daily challenges and the things that matter most to you.

Together, we can consider evidence-based medication and non-medication approaches that may help.

If a medication change is clinically appropriate, a private prescription can be arranged.

Your £200 fee includes:

  • One comprehensive Parkinson’s specialist nursing assessment

  • Medication review and advice where appropriate

  • A written clinical letter for you and your healthcare team

  • One 30-minute follow-up appointment, usually within four weeks

Private prescription and medication costs are charged separately.

12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan

Introductory price: £150 initial assessment + £35 per month for 12 months

The 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan is designed for people who would value ongoing access to specialist Parkinson’s nursing support rather than a single episode of care.

It provides continuity throughout the year, with planned reviews and access to non-urgent specialist advice between appointments.

The Support Plan includes:

  • One comprehensive initial Parkinson’s specialist nursing assessment

  • Four 30-minute follow-up appointments over 12 months

  • Parkinson’s medication review and advice within my clinical scope of practice

  • Independent prescribing where clinically appropriate

  • Non-urgent email support between appointments

  • Clinical letters and communication with your GP, neurologist or Parkinson’s team where appropriate

  • Signposting and referral to other services where helpful

The initial assessment fee of £150 is invoiced separately.

Following your initial assessment, monthly payments of £35 are collected by Direct Debit through GoCardless for 12 months.

The first monthly payment will normally begin approximately one month after your initial appointment.

The £150 initial assessment fee is a discounted rate for people joining the 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan. If you decide not to proceed with the Support Plan following your assessment, the standard one-off assessment fee of £200 will apply.

Unused follow-up appointments do not roll over beyond the 12-month Support Plan period.

Private prescription and medication costs are not included.

Which option is right for me?

The one-off assessment may suit you if you have a particular concern, would like a comprehensive review, or simply want another specialist opinion without committing to ongoing support.

The 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan may be more suitable if you would value continuity, regular reviews and access to specialist advice throughout the year.

If you're unsure, we can discuss the options during a free 15-minute introductory call.

Optional PKG® monitoring before your appointment - £225

Sometimes a snapshot during an appointment doesn’t tell the whole story.

My Parkinson’s Nurse can offer eligible people the option of wearing a PKG® (Parkinson’s KinetiGraph) watch before their consultation. The watch is worn at home during normal daily life and collects information about movement over several days. The resulting report can provide additional information about patterns such as slowness of movement, dyskinesia and fluctuations throughout the day, alongside medication timings.

We can then use this information together with your symptoms, experiences, medication history and specialist nurse assessment to help us have a more informed conversation about how well your Parkinson’s treatment is working.

PKG® monitoring costs £225 in addition to your consultation fee.

PKG® monitoring is entirely optional and will not be suitable or necessary for everyone. If I think it could provide useful additional information, we can discuss this with you before arranging it. My Parkinson’s Nurse is working with Empatica and PKG® to make this monitoring available to appropriate patients.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required. You can contact My Parkinson’s Nurse directly.

What happens in a first consultation?

Your first consultation is a comprehensive assessment covering the different aspects of your Parkinson’s, including motor and non-motor symptoms, medication, daily activities and any particular concerns you would like to discuss.

You can choose either:

  • a one-off comprehensive assessment for £200, which includes one 30-minute follow-up appointment; or

  • the 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan, which has an introductory price of £150 for the initial assessment, followed by £35 per month for 12 months.

The Support Plan includes four 30-minute follow-up appointments during the year, together with access to non-urgent email support between appointments.

Why do you ask for copies of my previous Parkinson’s correspondence and current prescription?

This helps My Parkinson’s Nurse build an accurate picture of your Parkinson’s history, current treatment and previous specialist recommendations before your appointment.

Having this information means we can use our time together effectively, avoid unnecessary duplication and, most importantly, make sure any advice or prescribing decisions are made as safely and accurately as possible.

Can family members join?

Yes. Family members, friends or carers are very welcome to join your consultation if you would find this helpful.

Is the service confidential?

Yes. All consultations are confidential and clinical information is stored securely using Cliniko.

Information will only be shared with other healthcare professionals where appropriate and in accordance with the My Parkinson’s Nurse privacy and information-governance policies.

What if I need urgent help?

My Parkinson’s Nurse is not an urgent or emergency service.

If you require urgent medical help, you should contact your GP, NHS Parkinson’s team, NHS 111 or emergency services as appropriate.

Some problems cannot be managed safely through an online consultation and may require assessment by your NHS team or another healthcare professional.

If you experience side effects following a recent medication change, you should follow the safety-netting advice discussed with you. Please also contact My Parkinson’s Nurse if an earlier review may be needed.

What happens when My Parkinson’s Nurse is on annual leave?

My Parkinson’s Nurse is a sole-practitioner service, so there will occasionally be periods when the service is unavailable due to annual leave, professional commitments or illness.

Where possible, planned annual leave will be communicated in advance.

During these periods, routine appointments and non-urgent email responses may be temporarily unavailable. If you require urgent clinical advice while the service is unavailable, you should contact your GP, NHS Parkinson’s team, NHS 111 or 999 as appropriate.

Is the service available outside the UK?

The service is currently primarily available to people living in England.

International consultations may be considered in the future.

How do I pay for a one-off consultation?

An invoice will be sent to you by email from My Parkinson’s Nurse through Cliniko before your consultation.

Payment should be made online within the stated payment period.

The current fee for a one-off comprehensive assessment is £200, which includes one 30-minute follow-up appointment.

Cheques cannot currently be accepted.

How does the 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan work?

The 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan is designed for people who would value ongoing specialist Parkinson’s nursing support throughout the year.

The introductory price is:

£150 for the initial comprehensive assessment

followed by £35 per month for 12 months.

The Support Plan includes:

  • four 30-minute follow-up appointments during the 12-month period;

  • medication review and advice where appropriate;

  • independent prescribing within the agreed scope of practice;

  • non-urgent email support between appointments;

  • communication with your GP, neurologist or Parkinson’s team where appropriate; and

  • signposting or referral to other services where helpful.

The £150 initial assessment fee is invoiced through Cliniko.

Monthly payments are collected by Direct Debit through GoCardless, normally beginning approximately one month after your initial appointment.

What if I choose the Support Plan but decide not to continue after my first assessment?

The £150 initial assessment price is a discounted rate for people entering the 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan.

If you decide after your initial assessment that you do not wish to proceed with the Support Plan, the standard one-off assessment fee of £200 will apply and the remaining £50 will become payable.

What happens if I do not use all four Support Plan appointments?

The four follow-up appointments are available to use during your 12-month Support Plan period according to your clinical needs.

Unused appointments cannot be exchanged for cash and do not normally roll over into a future Support Plan period.

Can I cancel the 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan?

The Support Plan is designed as a 12-month arrangement.

There may be circumstances where it is appropriate to end the agreement early, for example because of a significant change in health, care needs or circumstances.

Any early termination, outstanding payments or refunds will be considered in accordance with the Support Plan Agreement and applicable consumer rights.

I have private health insurance. Will you accept this?

My Parkinson’s Nurse is happy to work with private health insurance providers where appropriate.

Please check with your insurer before booking to confirm whether they will fund the service.

If they agree to cover the cost, please provide the relevant details so an appropriate invoice can be prepared.

Will my GP take over any changes you make to my treatment?

It is helpful to discuss your involvement with My Parkinson’s Nurse with your GP where appropriate.

Your GP is under no obligation to continue medication initiated or recommended privately.

Where a medication change is made, My Parkinson’s Nurse can provide private prescriptions where clinically appropriate while the response to treatment is reviewed.

Clinical letters can be shared with your GP and/or Parkinson’s team so that they understand the reasons for any medication changes and can consider whether ongoing prescribing is appropriate.

Why is Care Quality Commission (CQC) registration important?

The Care Quality Commission regulates health and social care services in England where regulated activities are provided.

My Parkinson’s Nurse is registered with the CQC to provide its regulated clinical service.

Registration provides independent regulatory oversight and requires the service to meet relevant standards relating to quality, safety, governance and person-centred care.

What if my medication is changed and I later decide not to continue with My Parkinson’s Nurse?

Medication changes should normally be followed up by the healthcare professional who initiated them so that effectiveness, side effects and safety can be reviewed.

If you decide not to continue with My Parkinson’s Nurse within the agreed follow-up period, no further private prescriptions will normally be issued and responsibility for ongoing care will return to your GP and/or NHS Parkinson’s team.

Relevant clinical information will be shared appropriately to support a safe transfer of care.

Where are my clinical records stored?

Clinical information shared with My Parkinson’s Nurse is stored securely using Cliniko.

Emma Edwards is the sole practitioner and has access to these records.

Clinical letters may be shared with you by secure electronic means and/or post, and may also be shared with your GP or Parkinson’s team where appropriate.

Information received by your NHS healthcare team will then be stored within their own clinical record systems.

How do I pay for private prescriptions?

My Parkinson’s Nurse uses a secure electronic prescribing system called SignatureRx.

A private prescription can be sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice.

Your pharmacy will charge you for the medication and may also apply its own private-prescription dispensing or processing fee. Charges vary between pharmacies and according to the medication prescribed.

Where possible, an indication of likely medication costs can be provided.

Private prescription and medication costs are not included within either the one-off consultation fee or the 12-Month Parkinson’s Support Plan.

What if I am unhappy with the service I receive?

My Parkinson’s Nurse aims to provide clear, transparent and person-centred care.

If you have any concerns about the service you have received, please contact Emma Edwards in the first instance so that your concerns can be listened to, investigated and, wherever possible, resolved.

All complaints and concerns will be treated confidentially, fairly and without prejudice.

A written response will be provided where appropriate.

A full complaints policy is available, including information about how to escalate a complaint if you remain dissatisfied.

Feedback is extremely important to My Parkinson’s Nurse and helps ensure that the service continues to develop safely and effectively.
